| The
Thousand Oaks Boulevard Business Improvement
District is a State of California authorized
organization of property owners located
on or near Thousand Oaks Boulevard who
have voted to assess themselves for and
are dedicated to the improvement of the
Boulevard. California state law allows
for two different types of Business Improvement
Districts: A BID funded by property owners
and one funded by area businesses. Each
has an authorized lifetime of five years.
BIDs are intended to provide private funding
for area development or redevelopment
when public funding sources are limited.
They are intended by the State to work
in cooperation with cities in forming
a partnership designed to improve commercial
areas.
For the Thousand Oaks
Boulevard BID, planning and implementation
costs of Boulevard improvements will largely
be funded either through the BID using
tax assessments of BID real properties
or through private funding by BID property
owners.
